Jobs at Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit

Youth Mental Health Training Coordinator

Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

Type: Full Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

Following the 2016 Detroit Jewish Community Health and Social Welfare Needs Assessment, which showed that a large percentage of local Jewish teens are suffering from sadness, anxiety and depression, Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit (“Federation”) formed a Workgroup responsible for developing a plan to combat this health crisis. That plan has been developed, and the first phase is to provide mental health awareness and intervention training to the 850 teachers, administrators, camp counselors, and others in the community who engage with our youth on a regular basis.

Federation now seeks a Mental Health Training Coordinator (“Coordinator”) to manage this project.

Responsibilities:

The Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will be to:

• Work with Jewish Family Service, Friendship Circle and Kadima to identify their individual trainees for each of the Youth Mental Health First Aid, SafeTalk and ASIST trainings and secure additional trainers if necessary.
• Organize a calendar of trainings and identify/schedule venues. Ensure that each venue is appropriately set up for each training session and manage all on-site logistics.
• Designate representatives from each agency who will attend “train the trainer” training sessions and manage all logistics for any out-of-state trainings including registration, travel, etc.
• Work with trainers to augment the training curriculum so that it is appropriate and sensitive to the cultural, religious and other needs of trainees.
• Work with Federation’s marketing team to develop training communications and market the trainings, in collaboration with the agencies, through appropriate agency channels.
• Prepare training materials for the representatives participating in each training session.
• Distribute training reminders and track training attendance.
• Evaluate and measure successes and possible shortcomings of the training programs in consultation with Professor Sue Ann Savas from the University of Michigan who is currently working with Federation on its metrics system.
• Implement adjustments to the training program based on feedback from participants.
• Organize Kognito “booster” online simulation trainings for all trainees.

The Coordinator’s secondary responsibilities will be to:

• Lead meetings of the Teen Mental Health Workgroup, which consists of Jewish community stakeholders and meets once each quarter.
• Manage the Teen Mental Health Webpage which includes information about mental health information and a schedule of teen mental health-related community events.

Requirements:

• A deep understanding of youth mental health challenges and previous experience working in the mental health field.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Success developing strong working relationships and partnerships.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Strong work ethic and ability to multi-ask and work independently.
• Ability to attend early morning, evening and weekend programs and trainings.
• Strong computer skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of products.
