Benefits Manager

The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit has an immediate opening for a Benefits Manager. The Benefits Manager will be responsible for managing the employee benefit programs to ensure that they are efficiently administered, competitive, cost effective while providing excellent customer service.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administers employee benefit programs including but not limited to health insurance, prescription drug, dental, vision, long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending plan, voluntary insurance plans, PTO and wellness plans.  Manages benefit program costs and processes invoices.  
  • Provides employee benefit orientation for new employees in support of a smooth onboarding process.  Point person for the annual open enrollment meetings and implementation of all changes.
  • Develops recommendations and provides cost-benefit analysis to determine plan changes and to predict future costs.
  • Handles employee benefit inquiries and claims issues ensuring a quick, equitable, confidential and courteous resolution.  Interprets employee benefit policies and procedures.  First line of response for claims problems, plan questions, enrollment, interpretation of plan provisions, lost ID card, eligibility status changes.  Updates census data, notifies carrier of changes in participation; reconciles benefits accounts by approving billing statements. Processes COBRA.  Maintains employee benefit files and other record keeping.  
  • Manages the new hire orientation scheduling to ensure that all new employees are on-boarded effectively.
  • Assists with administration of Community-wide 403(b) Plan. Collects data in preparation for annual audit. Acts as internal auditor; tests 403(b) ERISA compliance and monitors agency biweekly payroll uploads. Performs data analysis to insure ERISA compliance.
  • Tracks and analyzes current and developing legislation and regulations affecting benefits, leaves and ADA to ensure compliance
  • Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information. Responds to survey data requests.
  • Assists in planning and execution of staff events and programs.
  • Assists in staff recruitment and staff onboarding, when needed.

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s Degree is generally preferred and majors can include human resources, business administration finance, accounting or a related field.or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possesses a minimum of three years of work experience; prior work within a Human Resources Department or Benefit Administration a plus.  
  • Candidate must have excellent analytical skills, demonstrate superb attention to detail, exhibit strong organizational skills, and be a proactive communicator and problem solver.
  • Must be deadline oriented with the ability to multitask and handle various projects and responsibilities
  • Must have exceptional interpersonal skills, high energy, and be very results driven.
  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere and operate with minimum supervision.
  • A minimum of Intermediate Proficiency in Excel preferred.  
  • A Certified Benefits Professional (CBP) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) is a plus.
