Business Practices Director

Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

The Business Practices Director acts as an internal auditor and is responsible for working in a collaborative manner with the Federation and its 17 agencies to ensure that proper internal oversight controls are in place, and to create a set of standards and protocols for achieving a best practices business environment.  The Director is responsible for the review of agency financial statements, and partnering with the agency professionals and lay leaders to identify and resolve any potential areas of vulnerability or concern in a timely and responsive manner.  This position is a 22.5 hour position per week.   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Developing trust and serving as a strategic business resource to the 17 agencies. 
• Serving as primary staff for the Business Practices Committee, which will oversee Business Practices projects and activities;
• Developing and updating tools for scheduled reviews of the Federation and agency internal control systems;
• Reviewing the annual allocations budget package materials and making necessary updates for the next fiscal year’s reporting;
• Performing routine reviews of Federation and agency practices to assess whether they are in compliance with internal policies and external requirements;
• Performing routine reviews of agency financial reports and management letters, and helping to identify and resolve any potential areas of concern. Meeting with Planning Department staff on a quarterly basis (or more often if issues arise as part of the routine reviews) to review the financials and any findings;
• Following up with agencies that do not submit their financials at the required intervals;
• As part of the annual allocations process, reviewing agency budget submissions, following up with agencies where there are questions and reviewing the agency budgets with the Planning Divisions;
• Working to improve the effectiveness of community-wide programs, such as insurance, real estate, and capital needs;
• Working to improve collaborations with the agencies, to optimize relationships; and
• Organizing quarterly round table meetings for Federation and agency financial professionals to share best practices and discuss relevant topics.

QUALIFICATIONS:


• Certified Public Accountant and /or Masters in Management, Finance, Business Administration, or the equivalent;
• Minimum of 5 years work experience, including work on auditing engagements;
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills;
• Bridge builder and collaborator;
• Strong analytical abilities;
• Self-starter.

Salary commensurate with experience
