Jobs at Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit

Coordinator, The Jewish Fund Teen Board - Part-time

Location: Bloomfield Hills, MI

Type: Part Time

Min. Experience: Experienced

The Jewish Fund is a philanthropic grant making foundation, created in 1997 from the sale proceeds of Sinai Hospital in Detroit.  With assets of over $60 million, The Fund awards grants totaling over $3 million per year, primarily in the areas of health and welfare in the Jewish and general communities of Metro Detroit.  It is governed by a board of directors and led by an Executive Director.  It is suggested that applicants review The Jewish Fund’s website at www.thejewishfund.org.

Now in its sixth year, the Teen Board of The Jewish Fund engages Jewish high school students in a multi-year program to learn about philanthropy and becoming grant makers.  The board’s goals are to empower Jewish teens with the tools and resources to understand and contribute to problem solving in their community through the practice of strategic philanthropy. The grant making priorities and methods are consistent with those utilized by the board of directors of The Jewish Fund.  There are currently two Teen Boards, a first and second year, each with the responsibility to grant $50,000 to local non-profit organizations.  An alumni program is also presented, wherein teens may serve as group leaders/facilitators for the two boards.  Additionally, a summer internship program offers additional experiences for teen board members.
